Attadale Gardens

The Gardens

A garden of over 20 acres between Kyle of Lochalsh and Achnasheen, in Scotland's North West Highlands. Recently restored, re-planted and re-designed by the present owners with great skill and care. The garden is large in area and as you might expect has a number of different compartments with different kinds of planting giving great variety and interest at most seasons of the year.
You are greeted at the entrance by water gardens with informal ponds, streams  and water-falls. Large, colourfull, perennials fringe the water-side including the magnificent Gunnera manicata a plant originating from Brazil.
Footpaths weave amongst the planting and elegant bridges afford views from alternative angles.

The backdrop to the water gardens is an area of hillside devastated by gales in the 1980's. This has been replanted with interesting trees and shrubs with, here and there, clumps of old Rhododendrons which survived the gales. The new trees and shrubs are now reaching an interesting stage.
Nearer the house, there is a formal sunken garden through which you gain access to a open woodland area and avenue, both planted with exotic trees and shrubs.
The pathways lead you to a Japanese garden, a Himalayan grotto, a fernery and back to the formal and immaculately kept vegetable and fruit garden.
